milestones, upon milestones

whoa! times they are a changin. claire is growing up, just not out. she can finally wear 18 month clothes, BUT they are too large around the waist. lovely. maybe my mom can assist in fixing her pants when she visits next week. definitely a problem i'd love to have.
she is getting to be a better listener, which is a relief to both chris and i. she still has her moments of outward protest, but we are doing many less time-outs. can't say enough, how happy that makes me. that being said, time-outs with claire are rather funny. she knows the chair to sit on and sits there until we have our little chit chat. claire is a quick learner. when we ask her why she is in time-out, her explanations always begin with "because," and followed by some jibber jabber, occasionally she'll have the right idea but generally it is jibberish. too cute. when we conclude our little chat with a friendly, "you need to listen to momma and daddy," claire ALWAYS responds, "ok." love that too. she is a gem.
we've broken new ground as of friday. our house is resounding with "why?" i wasn't expecting this lovely question to be hitting so early (i was expecting it to hold off until she was at least 2 or so) or with such vengence. i am trying desparately to provide her with clear, specific answers for each question instead of the notorious "because i said so" response, but it is a challenge and we are only 3 days in. i do like to hear the question and her response to our answers, but wow, this could be a long road.
another thing claire is doing that is so darn cute is using her hands. she holds the phone between her ear and shoulder and uses her hands to get her point across. way too sweet. i don't know where she would ever have learned this, but it most definitely must have come from her dad. ha. he is way too mellow for hand talking. i, on the other hand, find it provides an extra bit of umf to a conversation.
claire loves to mimic or do everything we do. if chris takes a drink and makes a big "aahh" afterwards, only seconds later, claire is doing the same thing. on thursday night, i was messing around with my new video camera when claire decided that she needed a camera and headed over to the shelf with my canon camera on it, yanked it down and appeared in shock when it hit the ground. needless to say, despite chris' efforts to mend the damage, it needed some attention. not exactly great timing, since we will be experiencing a life changing event next week, but the good news is definitely that we/chris purchased the extended warranty on it. finally, those things paid off. it should be fixed by the 14th, but i most likely won't receive it until the following week.
claire loves to dig in the dirt, help me plant flowers or play in the water. this will be an awesome summer as she is all about activity now. life is definitely much more exciting with each new phase that she enters even though at the time, the one before it was just as thrilling. parenting this little bubby is such a joy.

4 months

We are potentially down to our last four months in Korea. I say "potentially" because it rests solely on where we are going. If we are heading back to the States, we will most likely be leaving early June so that we can enjoy a full summer with family and have time to get settled before Claire begins school. We caught wind today of what could be our next assignment. Although it is far from official word, all of a sudden my tummy is filled with butterflies. I had the privilege of teaching a little first grade girl who was one of a set of quadruplets. They (she and her sisters) are the most delightful little girls. They are well behaved and truly beautiful inside and out. Anyway, their family was due to PCS (military move) in December. I teased her that I was going to follow her and live down the road. While they were house hunting, I continually asked if there was a neighboring house for me. She'd laugh and giggle, not really sure if I was serious or not. Her Mom thought

A post

You wanted it, you asked for it, so here it is. A post. Hopefully this post will satisfy all your desires. I am not writing about the apple of my eye, Claire, but of the other apple of my eye--reality tv. I love it! Right now I am getting my fill of Big Brother. I have even lured Chris into my dark place. He mostly watched last season because Dick was such a jerk, but Chris is hooked. He's a dedicated viewer once again this season. Sadly, he was a fan of Matty who was kicked off a few weeks ago. I don't think I have a favorite. I find them all to be so obnoxious, yet I watch. Go figure. I obviously need some more excitement in my life. Girls who wear butt showing shorts, screaming matches, verbal abuse, crazy eyes, back stabbing, boys running around in their colored tighty whiteys (if tighty whiteys are colored, are they still called tighty whiteys?)---all in one episode! It is a gold mine. My second can't miss show is Housewives of Orange County or New York City. I really

Progress

I used to be prompt about scrapbooking in Claire's album. After seeing my sister's pictures piled up three children later, I was determined not to have the same fate. I am sure it is difficult for some of you to believe, but since Claire has been born, my free time has been limited. Really, it has. So, our pictures are finding their way into piles too--5 to be exact. However, I am thrilled to say that I finished (ok, they aren't completely finished, but nearly. I only have journaling to do.) six pages. Yes, that's right, I said SIX!! It was a major accomplishment. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. Only 5 more months left to get through....any volunteers? Jessica???
