12 Days of Christmas.

Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. I love summer too, but that is a season and so much longer that it is hard to choose between the two.
Growing up, my family had traditions. We decorated the tree, baked cookies, played in the snow, sang songs before opening presents, went to church (as we did every Sunday), Christmas programs at school and church, etc.
Now that our kiddos are a bit older, Chris and I are trying to more firmly establish some traditions of our own. We've always made gingerbread houses, done the parties, made cookies, etc., but the newest tradition is our "12 Days of Christmas." I brainstormed 12 family activities of fun, writing them on slips of paper, putting them in a bag. Each day, Claire or Mya choose a slip and we do that activity. Here is a review of our previous 12 days:
Day 1: we all played wii
Day 2: We watched a Mickey Mouse Christmas while snuggled in our bed.
Day 3: Chris and I had his work Christmas party, so the girls played games with Ms. Kim (their babysitter whom they LOVE!)
Day 4: We ate a restaurant of Claire and Mya's choosing.
Day 5: Both Claire and Mya bought a toy of their choice to donate to a child in need.
Day 6: We did a few Christmas art projects--gingerbread house, bracelet, snowman and reindeer that my Mom brought with her.
Day 7: We read a Christmas story and drank hot chocolate. On aside--Mya clearly watches too much Dora. She calls chocolate by the Spanish name--Choco-latte. So. darn. funny.
Day 8: We made Christmas cookies.
Day 9: We went bowling--well actually, we went to the bowling alley and the kids opted to play instead of bowl. Go figure.
Day 10: We had planned on going to Seoul for ice skating and more, but those plans were halted by command. Needless to say, I was illprepared and had no day 10, 11 and 12 planned. I will do better next year ;)
Day 11: We are going to the movie, Alvin & the Chipmunks.
Day 12: failure

Overall, this was a huge hit in our house. We will definitely do it again next year with a little bit better planning. The highlight to our day is that all of our Christmas gifts for our kiddos arrived as well as one from an auntie. Yippee! It was really down to the wire, but we are officially ready for Christmas.

4 months

We are potentially down to our last four months in Korea. I say "potentially" because it rests solely on where we are going. If we are heading back to the States, we will most likely be leaving early June so that we can enjoy a full summer with family and have time to get settled before Claire begins school. We caught wind today of what could be our next assignment. Although it is far from official word, all of a sudden my tummy is filled with butterflies. I had the privilege of teaching a little first grade girl who was one of a set of quadruplets. They (she and her sisters) are the most delightful little girls. They are well behaved and truly beautiful inside and out. Anyway, their family was due to PCS (military move) in December. I teased her that I was going to follow her and live down the road. While they were house hunting, I continually asked if there was a neighboring house for me. She'd laugh and giggle, not really sure if I was serious or not. Her Mom thought

A post

You wanted it, you asked for it, so here it is. A post. Hopefully this post will satisfy all your desires. I am not writing about the apple of my eye, Claire, but of the other apple of my eye--reality tv. I love it! Right now I am getting my fill of Big Brother. I have even lured Chris into my dark place. He mostly watched last season because Dick was such a jerk, but Chris is hooked. He's a dedicated viewer once again this season. Sadly, he was a fan of Matty who was kicked off a few weeks ago. I don't think I have a favorite. I find them all to be so obnoxious, yet I watch. Go figure. I obviously need some more excitement in my life. Girls who wear butt showing shorts, screaming matches, verbal abuse, crazy eyes, back stabbing, boys running around in their colored tighty whiteys (if tighty whiteys are colored, are they still called tighty whiteys?)---all in one episode! It is a gold mine. My second can't miss show is Housewives of Orange County or New York City. I really

Progress

I used to be prompt about scrapbooking in Claire's album. After seeing my sister's pictures piled up three children later, I was determined not to have the same fate. I am sure it is difficult for some of you to believe, but since Claire has been born, my free time has been limited. Really, it has. So, our pictures are finding their way into piles too--5 to be exact. However, I am thrilled to say that I finished (ok, they aren't completely finished, but nearly. I only have journaling to do.) six pages. Yes, that's right, I said SIX!! It was a major accomplishment. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. Only 5 more months left to get through....any volunteers? Jessica???
