mya and claire

I have definitely dropped the ball on this blogging thing. I was so good with claire, posting weekly and sometimes daily all the things that she was doing, eating and her sleeping patterns. Aiy, yaiy, yaiy. Mya is a great baby. She sleeps for 3-4 hours at a time, sometimes even 5 hours. She basically wakes to eat and falls back to sleep, although her time awake is increasing each day. Mya hardly fusses and rarely cries. However, that being said, when she wants something, she makes it known. I think she may get that quality from me. hmmm. She loves to be swaddled, but doesn't need to be in order to sleep. She is a pretty laid back kiddo and tolerates alot of helping from her big sister, Claire. Claire is the paci police and is constantly trying to shove the paci in Mya's mouth or smother her with kisses. Mya is loved, no doubt about it. We've changed bottles once again and reverted to using the medela special feeder bottle we had when Claire was born. It is working much bett...

Playground Fun

I have one week under my belt of managing two children on my own and I must say that I feel pretty good about how things have gone. We've settled into our little routine, which includes (must to my dismay) waking up around 6:00, hanging out, playing, going for our morning walk, a little shopping and a trip to the playground. We've recently discovered a few great playgrounds in addition to the one across the street from our house that suite Claire very well. One just opened, so we've been regulars. These photos were taken on Tuesday when Mya was sleeping. It worked out pretty well. I followed Claire around the structure while pushing Mya in the stroller. Little did I know that Mya would want to join in the fun the very next day. She was awake the entire time and sadly, wanted to eat. Needless to say, it was a challenge feeding her, watching Claire all while pushing around a stroller. It worked and I survived. The weather has been gorgeous this week too, which has really help...

Our Announcement...

I've been waiting to post the announcement until I actually had a few minutes to mail them out. I did so yesterday. I am so happy with the way these turned out. I think they are adorable and were much more reasonable than the ones we ordered for Claire.

update...bullet form

no time to blog lately, so here are the updates: -claire is calling chris, "daddyo." just came all of a sudden-no idea where she heard this -claire sits and watches when she rides in the car. today we drove past her daycare provider's home after going on a long walk and claire said, "there's maureen's house." i point out her house everytime we go by, but never expected that claire would be able to find it given the fact that we were going home after being rather far from home. what a little smarty pants. -mya is awesome. sleeps, eats and rarely fusses. -mommy milk is coming more often via pumping. can't take an hour break to feed. haven't given up totally on bf though -watching dog whisperer in hopes of learning a few tricks to train sophie. she is making life way more challenging than it needs to be. -chris gave me the greatest gift today--a 2 hour nap...ALONE! i love sleeping with my kiddos, but i am such a light sleeper that i wake up to every...

first days

We are now at the end of day #8 since we welcomed Mya into the world. She is doing well. Let me start by saying, this kid can eat. As a result, I went through a few very stressful days after leaving the hospital. Having pumped for 6 months with Claire, I was determined to not go through that again, but was set on giving her breastmilk. Mya nursed well in the hospital, but I couldn't stand feeding for an hour like she could eat. I stupidly attempted to do this for the first three days. It was exhausting, especially at 3 in the morning. Anyway, I devised a plan and so far so good, although Chris is less thrilled as it involves him waking with me each time. The bigger challenge was finding a bottle that she liked. We went through the 3kinds that we had with Claire to no success. I bought 2 more and finally found one that was good--Dr. Brown's. Amen for Dr. Brown. Now I am doing a combination of breast and bottle and feeling great. She's getting what she needs and I can have a ...

day 5

Having two kiddos certainly changes things. We've had such a busy week, but really done nothing. It has been awesome having my Mom here. She has been so good with Claire and helping us with whatever needs to be done. If only she could be here full-time, we'd be set. Mya had a doctor appointment on Thursday, so I gave her a sponge bath while Chris bathed Claire. Mya was not a fan. She screamed and screamed. Her doctor appointment went well. She has gained 2.5 ounces since leaving the hospital, weighing 8 lbs. 4 oz. We had to have her blood drawn to check her billirubin levels since they were 9.9 when we left the hospital. This kiddo is one tough cookie at only 5 days old. She didn't cry or even move during the blood drawing. Pretty impressive. The results were okay. Her levels are still elevated, but not enough to do anything other than feed and sunbathe her as often as possible.
