1 Month

It is hard to believe she is one month old. It seems like only yesterday we were leaving the hospital with our nervous excitement. She has been an absolute joy. Claire eats well and sleeps for 4-5 hours at a time. Her days aren't as sleep filled, typically cat-napping throughout. She has grown and changed so much in such a short time. She is developing cheeks and continues to have her head of hair. Claire still tries to hold her head and has gotten better at doing so. She also wants to hold her bottle. She smiles often, although we are aware these aren't true smiles. Claire loves to look into our eyes as we are feeding her. This truly melts our hearts. We also love the way she manipulates her hands and falls asleep with the bottle in her mouth. When we remove it, her mouth hangs open in the air. We have experienced a few blow-outs now, even one at church. Both Chris and I have had the pleasure of having her urinate while we are in the process of changing her diaper, but only I have had the pleasure of a bowel movement while changing her. Quite a different experience. In the one month time, we have only had to take 2 rides to calm her down. We are finally getting to know our little girl. We love her so much and look forward to each and every day. She truly makes our family a family.

Yes, indeeedy do. 0.0 is exactly the amount of weight I lost this week. Irritating! Here's the breakdown: number of times I cheated on my diet--ZERO! number of times I worked out--FIVE!! (running, no less). Now that is a mean, mean slap in the face. After I picked myself off the floor and resisted the urge to throw the scale through my window, I've come to realize that it is time to call in the big guns. There will be no messing around. Through a very valuable (HA!--sense the sarcasm) inservice this year, I've learned that I am "Green," meaning logical, research based, problem solver, mathmatical thinker. I am applying the same thought and strategy to my 'get fit' adventure. There will be no relying on the treadmill to tell me how much I've burned. That thing lies, LIES, LIES!! Take for example, the fact that each time I worked out, I burned at least 300 calories--most often 350, my pulse was around 87 (which is pretty much a near death resting ...

my workout playlist

I never dreamed I'd be listening/watching this when I worked out, but it is true. Here it is: photo courtesty of Laurieberkner.com I wouldn't have it any other way. My little healthy lifestyle journey is going well. I have exercised 7 days thus far which consists of treadmill activity and an ab workout every other day. I don't pressure myself to run everyday, but I have run 4 of the 7 days. I am quite proud of that. I have never been a runner or enjoyed running, but I have grown to like it. I used to say that I had exercise induced asthma! I think I did, but maybe I outgrew it? ha. Whatever the reason, I am finding it pretty easy to run and maintain a steady pace for no less than 20 minutes each time. Pretty impressive feat for a girl like me. Interestingly, I had planned to take today off, but didn't. I actually had the desire to run. Chris and I are both sticking to the eating plan as well. So far I am down about 4 pounds. Although 4 pounds is plenty, it ...

one year ago...

the birthday celebration was a two day affair. chris arranged to have an edible arrangement sent to daycare yesterday. the kids devoured the fruit. it was a hit. he also included a very sweet card. i, on the other hand, am still waiting for my sweet mother's day card. hmm. anyway, i was planning on just having a tiny party for mya, claire and i, but my friends set me straight. they know just when to step in and i guess that is what makes them the absolute best. every one year old needs a special party for this special milestone. needless to say, i bought some polkadot balloons, made a polkadot cake, bought a polkadot "one" onesie and voila, it was a polkadot party. we were joined by michelle & lucy and allison and henri. they bought her some balloons, party supplies and a cute little chair that i had been eyeing at pottery barn. love it. mya loved it too. she and claire took turns sitting in it all night and even did so together a few times. mya also got a cute littl...
