12 years old

Claire, You are 12! The past 12 years have passed so quickly and we've focused on enjoying the journey. You've seen so much and done far more in your 12 years than most do in a lifetime. You are entering the 7th grade, successfully made the ECNL U13 soccer team, are focusing on learning piano, and working to maintain your straight A record. We couldn't be more proud of who you are becoming. You are kind, loving, stubborn, and strong. You don't get caught up in girl drama, extend kindness to those in need, and love to cook, and create. We love you! We spent the day at the drive through safari, which also had a petting zoo. We ended the day at the Natural Bridge Caverns. DQ Oreo ice cream cake--your favorite! We enjoyed the SAFC game where you were given a gift bag of goodies!

6 years!

Dearest Mya. You are officially 6 years old! I was sitting here remembering so clearly the day you were born. How Grammy came to stay with Claire so Daddy and I could be with you at the hospital. Your delivery was so easy. I was in. You were born. I was out. From that moment, everyone thought you looked like me and that hasn't changed. You are definitely my mini me. I love it. You are a spunky kid. One that we needed. You have a beautiful spirit, a heart of gold, a determination. You aren't afraid to try anything, but you know what you like.  We've exposed you to several organized activities. At first you are thrilled, but by the 4th practice, you've had your fill of them. Daddy and I have pushed back a bit, not letting you quit. You commit. You finish. Right now, we are counting the days until gymnastics wraps up so we can stop hearing the complaining ;) You've tried soccer, basketball, ballet/tap, sing/shake club, & gymnastics. Nothing seems to stick. Of cour...

6 Years Old

I am not a big believer in parties for young children, so instead, Chris and I do our best to spoil or birthday child for the day. They basically choose whatever they want to do and we do it. Claire chose to get her ears pierced then hit a new (for us) zoo, followed by a late, late night firefly quest. Well, we went to Claire's jewelry in Kaiserslautern right at 10:00 when they opened only to find out that the 2nd employee was due for work until 12:00. We decided to shop around, have some lunch and go back at noon so she could have both ears done at once. Both she and Mya had their ears pierced and both were thrilled. By that time it was nearly 2:00 and we were tired. We opted to hold off on the zoo until the next day, go home and have a nap so we could stay up late for the firefly hunt. Claire was a-okay with the change of plans, but I couldn't help but feel bad. The rest of the day flew by, we enjoyed cake, presents, playing outside and movie watching. At about 10:30, we walk...
