6 Years Old

I am not a big believer in parties for young children, so instead, Chris and I do our best to spoil or birthday child for the day. They basically choose whatever they want to do and we do it. Claire chose to get her ears pierced then hit a new (for us) zoo, followed by a late, late night firefly quest. Well, we went to Claire's jewelry in Kaiserslautern right at 10:00 when they opened only to find out that the 2nd employee was due for work until 12:00. We decided to shop around, have some lunch and go back at noon so she could have both ears done at once. Both she and Mya had their ears pierced and both were thrilled. By that time it was nearly 2:00 and we were tired. We opted to hold off on the zoo until the next day, go home and have a nap so we could stay up late for the firefly hunt. Claire was a-okay with the change of plans, but I couldn't help but feel bad. The rest of the day flew by, we enjoyed cake, presents, playing outside and movie watching. At about 10:30, we walked over to the neighboring golf course and looked for fireflies. It was fun. Chris and Claire saw them and I caught them. We put them in a jar so we could see them closely then let them go the following morning. It was a birthday wish come true for our 6 year old. Wow, still can't believe she is 6!

6 Years old and no boyfriends--or does she?
Trying it again.

Ummm, the candles relight?

Mya taking matters into her own hands.

Her birthday request was to stay up extra late to go find fireflies. We captured 4 and she was THRILLED.

Door is decorated and ready for the morning reveal.

Last sleep as a 5 year old. She is too cute, cuddling her platypus that she's had since birth.

She also requested to have her ears pierced. The girl was walking on air all day.

Prepping her ears.

Hugging the bear for added comfort.

Squished eyes, but NO tears. She did great!

Mya decided she was game too. I agreed since I'd be the one cleaning these ears that maybe getting them both done at the same time was best.

Again, squished eyes, but NO tears.

Bravery.

Happy.

0.0

Yes, indeeedy do. 0.0 is exactly the amount of weight I lost this week. Irritating! Here's the breakdown: number of times I cheated on my diet--ZERO! number of times I worked out--FIVE!! (running, no less). Now that is a mean, mean slap in the face. After I picked myself off the floor and resisted the urge to throw the scale through my window, I've come to realize that it is time to call in the big guns. There will be no messing around. Through a very valuable (HA!--sense the sarcasm) inservice this year, I've learned that I am "Green," meaning logical, research based, problem solver, mathmatical thinker. I am applying the same thought and strategy to my 'get fit' adventure. There will be no relying on the treadmill to tell me how much I've burned. That thing lies, LIES, LIES!! Take for example, the fact that each time I worked out, I burned at least 300 calories--most often 350, my pulse was around 87 (which is pretty much a near death resting ...

7 weeks

7 weeks has brought a couple of changes for sweet baby Mya. She is eating 5+ ounces of milk/feeding. Mya is much more awake now. She typically sleeps for about 4 hours during the day, otherwise is checking out this big bad world. Mya seems to enjoy our daily walks. She looks around and is a pretty content kiddo. Claire tends to her pacis if the need arises. We've introduced her to the activity mat, which she enjoys if she is left alone; however, given the fact that Claire too is fascinated by the mat and Mya, being left alone is a rare occurence. Mya sits in the swing daily, although she isn't a huge fan at this point. We're hoping to change her ways. She is strong, holding her head for minutes at a time and loves standing on her little feet. Mya has begun smiling. She has done this consistently for the past several days, but it is difficult to capture such an event on film as she stops smiling the moment you break eye-contact. This milestone is such a heart melting one. Th...

Bouncing Crazyiness!

I do alot of online shopping. When you live overseas, you have to. The BX is thrilling, yes, but it changes out the merchandise only so often ;) When it comes to clothing, if you shop at the BX (which I do as well), you can be guaranteed that at least 3 other people will be seen in the same item. Take for example this little gray vest that I bought. The other day, 2 other teachers showed up in the same one. Thankfully, I hadn't worn mine that day, but you get the point. Anyway, several places do not ship overseas. That's where my Mom comes in. I typically have the stuff mailed to her house and she graciously mails it to us. Readdressing the boxes, running to the post office and mailing our stuff is a major pain. I know this, but she's been so great about it. Priority mail is the way to go. She generally mails it priority and we recieve it in a week to ten days. However, I ordered a "jumpy jump" as Claire calls it, well before Christmas. Since it was so heavy and s...
