Settled

Here we are awaiting the arrival of our packers/movers. The fourth set of "moving men" that we will have encountered since our marriage. In the midst of all of our craziness the past few weeks, Chris and I have been discussing our hopes and feelings for the future--mostly how we both desire feeling "content" and "settled." The truth is that neither of us have felt completely settled since we left Massachusetts over 2 years ago. I suppose it is because we were thrown into the craziness of Korea, thinking Chris was going unaccompanied, the kids and I arriving 1 week after school had already begun and Chris having a work schedule so demanding that we rarely saw him longer than 2 hours per day during the work week. That may be it. The same has held true in Germany. We get semi-settled, only to learn that I officially have a job 2 weeks after school has begun. We had to rearrange our lives, deal with my miscarriage, move Claire to a different school, figure out our new routine and juggle all the balls to make it happen. Add on our whole hearted attempt to buy a house, have that mess blow up in our face, find a new house, rearrange the packers, cleaner, throw in a tonsil/adenoidectomy and the regular chaos that surrounds the holidays (parties, gift buying, wrapping, baking, etc.). We are trying very  hard to give our children a feeling of normal during this very stressful time. We are trying very hard to practice patience. Trying very hard to be more understanding and tolerant. It is hard and a constant battle, but one that will be ending soon as the last box leaves our house.

Chris has openly said how he thinks this is going to be the worst Christmas ever. I tend to disagree. I think while it will be different, it will be wonderful. Simple and wonderful. We'll have our beautiful tree, a sleepover by the fire in our living room, Christmas movies to watch, great food to eat and presents to open surrounded by those we love most. I won't be worrying about entertaining, cleaning, organizing, blah blah blah. There will be nothing to do but enjoy the time together and for that I am forever thankful.

As I look beyond this holiday season and into the new year, I hope for nothing else than that feeling of being settled and content. I have so much to be thankful for. I have experienced, traveled and seen more in 34 years that most have not experienced in a lifetime. I am blessed. I need no material things this Christmas. I want nothing. For the first time in my life, I truly feel I have it all. I simply want to "be." I want to better myself. I want to be a better wife, a better mother, sister, daughter, and friend. I want to love and cherish. I want to savor every moment. I want to "live" my amazing life. Through these things, I will feel settled and most certainly content. Here's to trying.

Thanks for not letting me leave a comment on the last post! I understand your need to decompress, but you can't close your shop or stop blogging. Your business is supposed to make us rich how are we going to quit Our jobs if you take time off? And your blog is what keeps us informed on your life it is necessary now that you're in Germany! Spend less time cooking and cleaning that's my advice! I am a concerned reader. Love Y a, J

Sweetness Overload

So, we are still roughing it in our amazingly, wonderfully fabulous, new house. That means, air mattresses in our living room. Fun. The girls love it, Chris and I not so much ;) Anyway, the close proximity means Chris and I get to eavesdrop on some very tender moments. They seriously bring tears to my eyes. How did we get so lucky to have them as our children??? Here's one example. Claire--"Mya, can we snuggle?" Mya--"sure." Claire--"don't let go." Mya--"No, I'll just wait until you are sleeping." Claire--"No, you wait until the middle of the night." Mya--"Okay, I'll wait until the middle of the night." Then we hear lips smacking. So cute. I won't share the meltdown that occured moments before this sweetness ;) Life isn't always rosey, now is it? Ha! In other news..we get internet today and our furniture/things tomorrow! That means 1 more night of "roughing it!" Yippee!

0.0

Yes, indeeedy do. 0.0 is exactly the amount of weight I lost this week. Irritating! Here's the breakdown: number of times I cheated on my diet--ZERO! number of times I worked out--FIVE!! (running, no less). Now that is a mean, mean slap in the face. After I picked myself off the floor and resisted the urge to throw the scale through my window, I've come to realize that it is time to call in the big guns. There will be no messing around. Through a very valuable (HA!--sense the sarcasm) inservice this year, I've learned that I am "Green," meaning logical, research based, problem solver, mathmatical thinker. I am applying the same thought and strategy to my 'get fit' adventure. There will be no relying on the treadmill to tell me how much I've burned. That thing lies, LIES, LIES!! Take for example, the fact that each time I worked out, I burned at least 300 calories--most often 350, my pulse was around 87 (which is pretty much a near death resting ...

Progress

I used to be prompt about scrapbooking in Claire's album. After seeing my sister's pictures piled up three children later, I was determined not to have the same fate. I am sure it is difficult for some of you to believe, but since Claire has been born, my free time has been limited. Really, it has. So, our pictures are finding their way into piles too--5 to be exact. However, I am thrilled to say that I finished (ok, they aren't completely finished, but nearly. I only have journaling to do.) six pages. Yes, that's right, I said SIX!! It was a major accomplishment. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. Only 5 more months left to get through....any volunteers? Jessica???
