United Arab Emirates--Abu Dhabi & Dubai

Henna tatoos at the Desert safari.

We had a boat chartered in Dubai where we snorkeled just off the King's Palace property.

The King's new palace.

Checking out Dubai.

Outside the Atlantis Hotel.

My happy place---Cheesecake Factory!

Aquarium inside the Dubai mall.

Checking out the souks.

Twins!

Sand dune bashing vehicle? Yes it is! This crazy thing drove us over and down sand dunes in the middle of the desert. People had to pull over so they could vomit. It was insane! Can't believe we did this with our kids! Such fun.

Ready for the dunes!

One thing we've desperately missed since moving to Europe from Asia has been sunshine and heat. Don't get me wrong, we do have bouts of 80+ degree weather, but that is typically in August. There is nothing like 90+ in April! That was the main focus of our spring break travel--sunshine and heat. We found just that and more in Abu Dhabi! It was amazing.
We flew Etihad airlines, which were nothing less than fabulous--super sweet staff, good food and a nanny on board?!! Who could go wrong! We booked an all inclusive at Al Raha Beach Hotel. It was again, amazing. The staff were exceptional, food was delicious and accommodations were great. We loved every minute.
We took some crazy excursions--desert safari which included sand dune bashing in 4x4 vehicles (riding the peaks, then sliding down sideways--oh at, 70 miles per hour or so), henna tatoos, camel rides, traditional belly dancing and an Arabian feast. We also had a private van booked to take us to Dubai for the day--Hard Rock cafe, Burj Khalifa (tallest building in the world), the marina, Atlantis Hotel, etc. A truly beautiful city. Our final trip was a chartered snorkeling trip. We actually saw dolphins swimming in the water. It was beautiful! We snorkeled, saw the Sheik's new palace, fish market and soaked up the sunshine. Our other few days were spent at the Abu Dhabi mall where we dined on Cheesecake Factory and Texas Roadhouse! We've never seen those outside the US and boy did they not disappoint. So darn delicious!!
All in all, it was a perfect vacation. We loved every single minute of it and are already researching to find our next big destination.

0.0

Yes, indeeedy do. 0.0 is exactly the amount of weight I lost this week. Irritating! Here's the breakdown: number of times I cheated on my diet--ZERO! number of times I worked out--FIVE!! (running, no less). Now that is a mean, mean slap in the face. After I picked myself off the floor and resisted the urge to throw the scale through my window, I've come to realize that it is time to call in the big guns. There will be no messing around. Through a very valuable (HA!--sense the sarcasm) inservice this year, I've learned that I am "Green," meaning logical, research based, problem solver, mathmatical thinker. I am applying the same thought and strategy to my 'get fit' adventure. There will be no relying on the treadmill to tell me how much I've burned. That thing lies, LIES, LIES!! Take for example, the fact that each time I worked out, I burned at least 300 calories--most often 350, my pulse was around 87 (which is pretty much a near death resting ...

7 weeks

7 weeks has brought a couple of changes for sweet baby Mya. She is eating 5+ ounces of milk/feeding. Mya is much more awake now. She typically sleeps for about 4 hours during the day, otherwise is checking out this big bad world. Mya seems to enjoy our daily walks. She looks around and is a pretty content kiddo. Claire tends to her pacis if the need arises. We've introduced her to the activity mat, which she enjoys if she is left alone; however, given the fact that Claire too is fascinated by the mat and Mya, being left alone is a rare occurence. Mya sits in the swing daily, although she isn't a huge fan at this point. We're hoping to change her ways. She is strong, holding her head for minutes at a time and loves standing on her little feet. Mya has begun smiling. She has done this consistently for the past several days, but it is difficult to capture such an event on film as she stops smiling the moment you break eye-contact. This milestone is such a heart melting one. Th...

Bouncing Crazyiness!

I do alot of online shopping. When you live overseas, you have to. The BX is thrilling, yes, but it changes out the merchandise only so often ;) When it comes to clothing, if you shop at the BX (which I do as well), you can be guaranteed that at least 3 other people will be seen in the same item. Take for example this little gray vest that I bought. The other day, 2 other teachers showed up in the same one. Thankfully, I hadn't worn mine that day, but you get the point. Anyway, several places do not ship overseas. That's where my Mom comes in. I typically have the stuff mailed to her house and she graciously mails it to us. Readdressing the boxes, running to the post office and mailing our stuff is a major pain. I know this, but she's been so great about it. Priority mail is the way to go. She generally mails it priority and we recieve it in a week to ten days. However, I ordered a "jumpy jump" as Claire calls it, well before Christmas. Since it was so heavy and s...
