i say it jokingly, but i do feel as though i have a third job as a private preschool teacher. ha. i was feeling more torn now that claire is three and not enrolled in a preschools. i decided to provide a bit more structured support at home to compensate for what she may be missing. here are some of our little lessons and activities. my focus is strictly on helping her become more aware of letters and their sounds. she is solid on her vocabulary use and understanding, conceptual use and understanding, counting, etc., but has limited ability to identify letters and know what sounds they make. i do tie writing into our lessons, but i could care less at this point if she actually write the letter 'f.' i simply do it because writing seems to mean 'school' to her.

i can't seem to place a caption on some of the pictures, so i'll just give the details here. this week was fire prevention week, so i used that theme to create our lesson. i read the book, then created the fireman hats, moving on to making a firetruck picture out of 2 different shapes--rectangles and circles, and finally working on writing /f's/. mya does all the activities as well, but i obviously have to help her.

Love IT!! We should live closer, as our lives seem to frequently parallel. Rory is great at the letter recognition, sounds of letters and which letter begins which word but doesn't always want to do the writing of letters.
P.S. I love the fire engine! And I know I say this all the time, but Claire looks like a little lady!! She is growing up so much!

Happy Halloween!

The Halloween festivities are in full swing here. We attended a "Fall Festival" at my school on Thursday evening and today we enjoyed a "fall festival" at the girls' school. We've managed to keep their costumes a secret until Wednesday when Claire spilled the beans. She was doing so well at keeping the secret, I almost thought she wasn't our child for awhile ;) Claire dressed as "Pinkalicious" and Mya was a cupcake. My Mom and Dad bought Claire the book, "Pinkalicious" for her first birthday. It has been an on-going hit with our girls. They both have the entire book memorized. It is such a cute book where this girl named "Pinkalicious" loves pink. She eats too many pink cupcakes and turns pink, which she is thinks is simply beautiful then red, which is less than favorable. She eats her vegetables to turn alleviate her pain. In the meantime, her little brother is envious and devours the last one, then turns pink too. It is a ...

my workout playlist

I never dreamed I'd be listening/watching this when I worked out, but it is true. Here it is: photo courtesty of Laurieberkner.com I wouldn't have it any other way. My little healthy lifestyle journey is going well. I have exercised 7 days thus far which consists of treadmill activity and an ab workout every other day. I don't pressure myself to run everyday, but I have run 4 of the 7 days. I am quite proud of that. I have never been a runner or enjoyed running, but I have grown to like it. I used to say that I had exercise induced asthma! I think I did, but maybe I outgrew it? ha. Whatever the reason, I am finding it pretty easy to run and maintain a steady pace for no less than 20 minutes each time. Pretty impressive feat for a girl like me. Interestingly, I had planned to take today off, but didn't. I actually had the desire to run. Chris and I are both sticking to the eating plan as well. So far I am down about 4 pounds. Although 4 pounds is plenty, it ...

A post

You wanted it, you asked for it, so here it is. A post. Hopefully this post will satisfy all your desires. I am not writing about the apple of my eye, Claire, but of the other apple of my eye--reality tv. I love it! Right now I am getting my fill of Big Brother. I have even lured Chris into my dark place. He mostly watched last season because Dick was such a jerk, but Chris is hooked. He's a dedicated viewer once again this season. Sadly, he was a fan of Matty who was kicked off a few weeks ago. I don't think I have a favorite. I find them all to be so obnoxious, yet I watch. Go figure. I obviously need some more excitement in my life. Girls who wear butt showing shorts, screaming matches, verbal abuse, crazy eyes, back stabbing, boys running around in their colored tighty whiteys (if tighty whiteys are colored, are they still called tighty whiteys?)---all in one episode! It is a gold mine. My second can't miss show is Housewives of Orange County or New York City. I really ...
