christmas, already?

Mya lovin the lights.

we had the pleasure of having mark help us decorate the tree. hopefully it gave him a little taste of home too. we definitely think of him as family.

claire was a great little helper. she loved learning which ornaments were hers. i am so glad i started their collections right away. ornaments are a cherished possession in my family. both mya and claire already have several ornaments courtesy of my mom, sisters and of course, me. can't wait to see the collections grow. chris made several comments about missing the after christmas sales this year. hopefully my sisters/mom think of me and score me some cute ones?!! the hallmark rush will be missed!
claire and i also put up my little tree with my hallmark miniature ornaments in her room. she loved it. i think that may be a new little tradition for us. it was a good quality moment together.
last year our christmas decor was set up two weeks BEFORE thanksgiving. this year, we set it up the sunday of thanksgiving weekend. last year, i knew exactly what to get each kiddo, this year, i am still struggling. last year, i had the luxury of running to do last minute christmas shopping. this year, not so much. the whole idea of online shopping has sort of caught up with me. the post office was claiming that december 6th was the deadline for shipping packages. let's just say, i will be testing that number. ugh. i hate feeling unprepared. i hate thinking that i may be looking my presentless children in the eyes this christmas. i hate feeling my expectations for our first christmas alone set to unreachable limits. i hate feeling the pressures of the holidays knowing that i am solely responsible for carrying on my childhood tradition of yummy meatballs, gravy, and everything else (truth be told, i've never prepared said meal on my own, which presents a whole other level of anxiety), wrapping presents, and making our children's eyes light up with excitement, but also the pressures of keeping our spending in check so they GET the reason for the season. we've been great thus far. chris and i limit our gifts to one or two per child, but they've been young, so it has been easy. we've also been surrounded by family who spoil or kiddos rotten, which has also made it easy on us. this year will be different and has been different. i just need to remember that different isn't bad, it is just different. that being said, i will miss my family terribly! south korea is calling, mom and dad!!!

Hi Emily,
Glad you like the tree. Unfortunately, my camera battery died before the end of the process so I didn't even take a "completed" picture. The garland was from Target last year. Love that place! It came in a few different colors, one choice being the multicolored strands. They were sold in clear, plastic, rectangular boxes-very misleading shape for what they actually were, but definitely a great find!
Hope your holidays are bright and merry!

Possibly...not sure what is our shopping plan as I will be with Phil's fam...then returning home. Will try! I hardly have any room left on my tree...luckily I have a hand-me-down tree from Mom and Dad:)

A post

You wanted it, you asked for it, so here it is. A post. Hopefully this post will satisfy all your desires. I am not writing about the apple of my eye, Claire, but of the other apple of my eye--reality tv. I love it! Right now I am getting my fill of Big Brother. I have even lured Chris into my dark place. He mostly watched last season because Dick was such a jerk, but Chris is hooked. He's a dedicated viewer once again this season. Sadly, he was a fan of Matty who was kicked off a few weeks ago. I don't think I have a favorite. I find them all to be so obnoxious, yet I watch. Go figure. I obviously need some more excitement in my life. Girls who wear butt showing shorts, screaming matches, verbal abuse, crazy eyes, back stabbing, boys running around in their colored tighty whiteys (if tighty whiteys are colored, are they still called tighty whiteys?)---all in one episode! It is a gold mine. My second can't miss show is Housewives of Orange County or New York City. I really

4 months

We are potentially down to our last four months in Korea. I say "potentially" because it rests solely on where we are going. If we are heading back to the States, we will most likely be leaving early June so that we can enjoy a full summer with family and have time to get settled before Claire begins school. We caught wind today of what could be our next assignment. Although it is far from official word, all of a sudden my tummy is filled with butterflies. I had the privilege of teaching a little first grade girl who was one of a set of quadruplets. They (she and her sisters) are the most delightful little girls. They are well behaved and truly beautiful inside and out. Anyway, their family was due to PCS (military move) in December. I teased her that I was going to follow her and live down the road. While they were house hunting, I continually asked if there was a neighboring house for me. She'd laugh and giggle, not really sure if I was serious or not. Her Mom thought

Progress

I used to be prompt about scrapbooking in Claire's album. After seeing my sister's pictures piled up three children later, I was determined not to have the same fate. I am sure it is difficult for some of you to believe, but since Claire has been born, my free time has been limited. Really, it has. So, our pictures are finding their way into piles too--5 to be exact. However, I am thrilled to say that I finished (ok, they aren't completely finished, but nearly. I only have journaling to do.) six pages. Yes, that's right, I said SIX!! It was a major accomplishment. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. Only 5 more months left to get through....any volunteers? Jessica???
