Ups and Downs

Holy teledo! We have had quite the couple of weeks! The most notable news is our home buying situation. After all appeared to be going well, we went to the Notar on Wednesday. This appointment is where the contracts are read aloud and we sign. It basically locks us in as the buyers and dates/terms of purchase are clearly defined. Chris and I arrived and minutes later, the sellers arrived--with the wife's leg bleeding through her pants and limping. I asked what happened, she said matter of factly, "David pushed me down the stairs....on accident." OMG. Who says that? On accident. Chris immediately thought wife beater, but I was a bit slower to come to that realization. Anyway, she was as dramatic as ever saying that she hoped this meeting was brief as they needed to get to the ER and that her husband would be emotional as he feels really bad. Again--weird! I'd feel badly, but I don't think I've cried when I've accidently pushed someone. Maybe I am a cold hearted snake. Anyway, things started out on a very odd note. We went into the meeting, and things progressed. The notar and the equivalent of a realtor were talking back and forth in German regarding some land. We didn't quite understand the details until later. Basically the only way to access the property is through, what was discovered to be, a private alley way. We had the option of signing the contract with the understanding that it was a private alleyway and we were not the owners or we could wait and hope that some access would be granted by the owners. We opted for the latter, but on the way home, Chris and I began talking. Our heads were spinning as it was such a flippin strange meeting. In the end, after a sleepless night, which I took to be a sign from God as I NEVER have sleepless nights, we decided to walk away from buying this house. This decision presented a whole different set of issues as we had already given our 30 day notice and helped to find new tenants for our lovely house.
That night my throat began to hurt once again. Chris was convinced it was stress related, but I knew differently. I stayed home the next day, took Mya to her pre-op appointments for her tonsilectomy and ended up going back into the doctor myself. A second positive strep test and I am back on antibiotics. They suspect I never got rid of it the first time. Lovely.
Things seem to be looking up and Chris and I are taking this all in stride. There were a few stressful moments, but we've found a house to rent in our preferred village where we will be surrounded by a combination of Germans, Americans and Russians! There will be small children for our kids to play with, walking paths nearby and Mya's school is a few blocks away. We are right outside the gates of the base and we are so excited about our very brief commute each day. Can't wait.
Chris is convinced this is going to be the worst Christmas ever, but I think it will be lovely. Simple and lovely, camped out on the floor at the foot of our tree, nestled next to the fire. Simple and lovely. Not quite 5 star accommodations or the way we thought we'd be celebrating, but lovely none the less.
Stay tuned!

Update: We went to what we thought was going to be a contract signing appointment on the new house we hope to rent, only to find out that it wasn't! The Russian owner will make a decision by Friday. UGH! He wants to call the owner of our current house and get the low down. We have never been late on a payment, kept up the yard beautifully (I even planted some new perinneals, cleaned out all of her weeds and trimmed up the plants) and the house is in great shape; however, she wasn't happy that we were moving out. I just pray that she is the good, kind hearted person that we believe she is and doesn't say anything but how sad she is to have us go. Say prayers, lots of them because if this doesn't work out, we are in big trouble. Just when we thought things were going our way...ha!

Chris even looked to buying us flights back home for Christmas, but at $2400 a pop, who can afford that?! Sweet gesture, but total craziness.

Again, pray for us ;)

A post

You wanted it, you asked for it, so here it is. A post. Hopefully this post will satisfy all your desires. I am not writing about the apple of my eye, Claire, but of the other apple of my eye--reality tv. I love it! Right now I am getting my fill of Big Brother. I have even lured Chris into my dark place. He mostly watched last season because Dick was such a jerk, but Chris is hooked. He's a dedicated viewer once again this season. Sadly, he was a fan of Matty who was kicked off a few weeks ago. I don't think I have a favorite. I find them all to be so obnoxious, yet I watch. Go figure. I obviously need some more excitement in my life. Girls who wear butt showing shorts, screaming matches, verbal abuse, crazy eyes, back stabbing, boys running around in their colored tighty whiteys (if tighty whiteys are colored, are they still called tighty whiteys?)---all in one episode! It is a gold mine. My second can't miss show is Housewives of Orange County or New York City. I really

4 months

We are potentially down to our last four months in Korea. I say "potentially" because it rests solely on where we are going. If we are heading back to the States, we will most likely be leaving early June so that we can enjoy a full summer with family and have time to get settled before Claire begins school. We caught wind today of what could be our next assignment. Although it is far from official word, all of a sudden my tummy is filled with butterflies. I had the privilege of teaching a little first grade girl who was one of a set of quadruplets. They (she and her sisters) are the most delightful little girls. They are well behaved and truly beautiful inside and out. Anyway, their family was due to PCS (military move) in December. I teased her that I was going to follow her and live down the road. While they were house hunting, I continually asked if there was a neighboring house for me. She'd laugh and giggle, not really sure if I was serious or not. Her Mom thought

Progress

I used to be prompt about scrapbooking in Claire's album. After seeing my sister's pictures piled up three children later, I was determined not to have the same fate. I am sure it is difficult for some of you to believe, but since Claire has been born, my free time has been limited. Really, it has. So, our pictures are finding their way into piles too--5 to be exact. However, I am thrilled to say that I finished (ok, they aren't completely finished, but nearly. I only have journaling to do.) six pages. Yes, that's right, I said SIX!! It was a major accomplishment. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. Only 5 more months left to get through....any volunteers? Jessica???
