Claire is nearly 21 months old and I find myself recording fewer of her cute sayings and actions as each month passes. It is time I catch up...most of these have been occuring for awhile, but again---I am behind.
1. Anytime Chris and/or I say "ouch," Claire says, "ok?" as if to ask us if we are okay.
2. She says "I sorry" all the time. It is accompanied by a cute little snuggle. Love it!
3. Claire has the best manners of any 20 month old kiddo I've seen. She is constantly saying, "bless you," "please," and "thank you." Gosh, she probably has better manners than her parents!
4. She is sleeping in her own bed (started again (for the 3rd time) April 1st), which is going great. When I go in there and turn on the music, she often stands by the bed and whines for a second in anticipation of what is to come, but cries no longer than 15 seconds when we lay her down. She is such an easy kid.
5. She says "I love you" at the most random, most endearing moments. Claire definitely melts our hearts daily.
6. Claire loves to share--more often to our dismay. Her latest thing has been giving Sophie her paci's. We generally only give her the paci at night, during car rides or when she is extremely tired. We'd love to ween her off them altogether, but keep reminding ourselves that she is only one. Soooo, we've begun to "throw" her paci's away when she gives them to Sophie. Although this consequence may seem a bit harsh, it hardly affects her. In fact, last night I told her to pick up her paci or it is going in the trash. She picked it up and proceeded to head over to the trash can. Obviously, she is trying to tell us something---I am just not ready to say good-bye to the paci's yet!!
7. Claire is starting to show signs of the terrible two's. She is hitting a bit, folding her arms to pout, and throwing herself onto the floor in an effort to trantrum a bit more dramatically. Love the drama! Consequently, we've begun using "time outs" a bit more frequently. The minute on the chair does wonders.
8. She loves to spin, dance, read books, play outside, cook, clean, shop, go for rides, and run.
9. Claire can say her ABC's rather accurately and intelligibly and count to 10. Colors are a bit beyond her right now. She knows more words than I can count and her sentences are typically 3-4 words.
10. She is stepping out of her shy self again. I am so glad to see this move as she was such an outgoing child, but became very shy around the time that Chris left and now is beginning to open up again. Claire is waving "hi" and "bye" to people (yes, often strangers much to Chris' dismay)without prompting.
11. She has a number of older grandma/grandpa-like friends at church who love her. We receive compliment after compliment about what a beautiful, good (well behaved) little girl we have. Claire rarely leaves church to go to the nursery. She generally entertains herself with drawing or books or takes in the music with a snuggle. Meanwhile, a three year old next to us sits, having a fit while Claire watches.
It is hard to believe that she is nearly two years old. Our time with her has flown by. She is the greatest gift in my life and I am certain Chris would say the same. She has taught me more about patience, love, and life in my short two years with her than I learned in the 28 before her. Claire means everything to us.
