The Little Things...

There is a lovely bakery called Heavenly Bread. There are actually numerous bakeries here for us to admire.

CEIA--oh how we love you, our favorite brazillian steakhouse! You fill us with such goodness and the love from the waitresses is second to none. Ceia will be one very sad goodbye.

The raised grassy mounds in the background are actually burial plots. They are all over Korea--roadside, on hills, hidden in a secluded area. They are raised to replicate the womb in which they entered this world.

Bindgo ditches or as Claire still refers to them , "dindgo bitches." We find it too cute that we can't bring ourselves to correct her. This is the Korean drainage system to protect from flooding during monsoon season. They are all over. We actually have one in our backyard.

There are planter boxes everywhere. I find it ironic something so dirty and which most would consider trash, is used to grow something so fresh and lovely.

little rivers. This one is just across the road from our development. Rivers are pretty plentiful but none give me the desire to jump in. In fact, the base was recently offering parasailing excursions at the Han River in Seoul to which Chris and I replied in unison, 'No way." Nasty, dirty water.

the quirks of using english. there are plenty of examples of this all around korea. they get close, but it is still not quite right. i have to take more pictures of these. they make me laugh and for me, truly symbolize korea--American influences, becoming a more and more modernized culture with pieces of tradition interspersed, but still--not quite right.

I find myself thinking quite frequently now, how we only have 9 or so months left in Korea. There are so many things I want and plan to do before we leave. There are also so many things that we love here or have grown to love, but for whatever reason, haven't captured that memory on film. Today was a bit of doing just that. Trying to capture some of the ordinary things that we love or unique pieces of Korea that I find beautiful.

4 months

We are potentially down to our last four months in Korea. I say "potentially" because it rests solely on where we are going. If we are heading back to the States, we will most likely be leaving early June so that we can enjoy a full summer with family and have time to get settled before Claire begins school. We caught wind today of what could be our next assignment. Although it is far from official word, all of a sudden my tummy is filled with butterflies. I had the privilege of teaching a little first grade girl who was one of a set of quadruplets. They (she and her sisters) are the most delightful little girls. They are well behaved and truly beautiful inside and out. Anyway, their family was due to PCS (military move) in December. I teased her that I was going to follow her and live down the road. While they were house hunting, I continually asked if there was a neighboring house for me. She'd laugh and giggle, not really sure if I was serious or not. Her Mom thought

You wanted it, you asked for it, so here it is. A post. Hopefully this post will satisfy all your desires. I am not writing about the apple of my eye, Claire, but of the other apple of my eye--reality tv. I love it! Right now I am getting my fill of Big Brother. I have even lured Chris into my dark place. He mostly watched last season because Dick was such a jerk, but Chris is hooked. He's a dedicated viewer once again this season. Sadly, he was a fan of Matty who was kicked off a few weeks ago. I don't think I have a favorite. I find them all to be so obnoxious, yet I watch. Go figure. I obviously need some more excitement in my life. Girls who wear butt showing shorts, screaming matches, verbal abuse, crazy eyes, back stabbing, boys running around in their colored tighty whiteys (if tighty whiteys are colored, are they still called tighty whiteys?)---all in one episode! It is a gold mine. My second can't miss show is Housewives of Orange County or New York City. I really

Progress

I used to be prompt about scrapbooking in Claire's album. After seeing my sister's pictures piled up three children later, I was determined not to have the same fate. I am sure it is difficult for some of you to believe, but since Claire has been born, my free time has been limited. Really, it has. So, our pictures are finding their way into piles too--5 to be exact. However, I am thrilled to say that I finished (ok, they aren't completely finished, but nearly. I only have journaling to do.) six pages. Yes, that's right, I said SIX!! It was a major accomplishment. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. Only 5 more months left to get through....any volunteers? Jessica???
