China Day 5

Our last day in China was supposed to be pretty low-key, basically involving packing and heading to the airport for our departure. However, the days before were so filled that we ended up moving a few things around so life would be a little more manageable. Our first stop was Tiananamen Square. This was such a huge area. It was rather amazing to think such protests could take place on the ground which we were walking. It was calm, fairly empty and music filled the air. They also had an incredible panoramic screen sharing all that China had to offer.

Horsing around in the square.

More chasing and entertaining our kiddos.

And even more fun.
Our final stop was The Temple of Heaven. This place was 3 times larger than the Forbidden City. It was very, very large. The grounds around the Temple were filled with people dancing, exercising, playing games like Badminton, and Hackey Sack. It was neat seeing adults participating in all these different activities. The Temple itself was beautifully painted--ornate as many of the buildings throughout Asia. We did the picture thing then boarded the bus once again.
Dancing fun outside the Temple of Heaven.

Senior Citizens gathered along the porticos outside the Temple of Heaven--playing card games, knitting.

Shadow fun--this is a dog courtesy of Chris.

Claire and her friend, Madison outside the Temple of Heaven.

Thai Chi--many go to the Temple of Heaven for morning exercise.

Many were gathered playing badminton, hackey sack or other forms of activity.

Our attempt to have a photo of Chris and I, but as you can see, it didn't go well. Claire and Mya joined in.

Where are the Boynton's? We are on the upper terrace. My Mom is chiming in to say this photo gives an idea of the size of the Temple. I think it is similar to a "Where's Waldo" photo.

Blurred knitting.

Playing cards.

Dominoes or Mahjong.
Our final stop was The Last Lunch. I was never so happy to know that I wouldn't have to look at Chinese food for quite some time. I have had my fill.
Our LAST Chinese meal. Amen!

We boarded the bus one last time and made our way to the airport. The return trip was quick and easy. We were delayed leaving China about an hour, but the kids did well. It was a smooth flight. We were all excited to step foot on Korean soil once again. Our trip to China was amazing. We had a wonderful time and I am so happy that my Mom was able to join us. It was nice spending time together and we loved having her with us.

0.0

Yes, indeeedy do. 0.0 is exactly the amount of weight I lost this week. Irritating! Here's the breakdown: number of times I cheated on my diet--ZERO! number of times I worked out--FIVE!! (running, no less). Now that is a mean, mean slap in the face. After I picked myself off the floor and resisted the urge to throw the scale through my window, I've come to realize that it is time to call in the big guns. There will be no messing around. Through a very valuable (HA!--sense the sarcasm) inservice this year, I've learned that I am "Green," meaning logical, research based, problem solver, mathmatical thinker. I am applying the same thought and strategy to my 'get fit' adventure. There will be no relying on the treadmill to tell me how much I've burned. That thing lies, LIES, LIES!! Take for example, the fact that each time I worked out, I burned at least 300 calories--most often 350, my pulse was around 87 (which is pretty much a near death resting ...

7 weeks

7 weeks has brought a couple of changes for sweet baby Mya. She is eating 5+ ounces of milk/feeding. Mya is much more awake now. She typically sleeps for about 4 hours during the day, otherwise is checking out this big bad world. Mya seems to enjoy our daily walks. She looks around and is a pretty content kiddo. Claire tends to her pacis if the need arises. We've introduced her to the activity mat, which she enjoys if she is left alone; however, given the fact that Claire too is fascinated by the mat and Mya, being left alone is a rare occurence. Mya sits in the swing daily, although she isn't a huge fan at this point. We're hoping to change her ways. She is strong, holding her head for minutes at a time and loves standing on her little feet. Mya has begun smiling. She has done this consistently for the past several days, but it is difficult to capture such an event on film as she stops smiling the moment you break eye-contact. This milestone is such a heart melting one. Th...

Bouncing Crazyiness!

I do alot of online shopping. When you live overseas, you have to. The BX is thrilling, yes, but it changes out the merchandise only so often ;) When it comes to clothing, if you shop at the BX (which I do as well), you can be guaranteed that at least 3 other people will be seen in the same item. Take for example this little gray vest that I bought. The other day, 2 other teachers showed up in the same one. Thankfully, I hadn't worn mine that day, but you get the point. Anyway, several places do not ship overseas. That's where my Mom comes in. I typically have the stuff mailed to her house and she graciously mails it to us. Readdressing the boxes, running to the post office and mailing our stuff is a major pain. I know this, but she's been so great about it. Priority mail is the way to go. She generally mails it priority and we recieve it in a week to ten days. However, I ordered a "jumpy jump" as Claire calls it, well before Christmas. Since it was so heavy and s...
