T&A

Get your dirty mind out of the gutter. T&A, in this case, refers to Tonsils and Adenoids. Mya went into surgery on Wednesday at 6:30 am for her T&A removal. She was a superstar! Chris and I waited nervously for the word that all was well. Sending her off with the anesthesiologist and nurse was one of the hardest moments I have faced as her Momma. I cried. She didn't, but I did. I suppose that isn't a surprise to most. Anyway, 30 minutes later, she was in post-op recovery. 10 minutes after her arrival there, Mya was awake, but groggy and snuggling with her Daddy. They did end up removing her adenoids as well. They were medium to large sized. She was then moved to the same day surgery recovery room where she drank a bit more, had her vitals checked a couple of times and finally, had her IV removed. She was set to go home by 9:30 am. It was great. We spent the rest of the day and the next few days chillin at home. She helped me pack a few boxes as well, but we mostly snuggled. It was nice. This kid is truly a champ.

I've only been giving her ibuprofen, which was going well. I tried to give her tylenol with codine, but the kid was awake 2 hours after receiving it complaining that her throat hurt and crying. Last night we tried just regular tylenol, but again, it was a night from hell. She was awake, crying most of the night. We had to ride it out until early morning to give her more pain meds, which was horrible. Chris ended up staying home with her. Poor thing. I guess we'll stick with the ibuprofen, although it is linked to bleeding, which scares me. Ugh.

Chris and I are totally amazed at the difference. She keeps her mouth closed (asleep and awake), doesn't snore and her voice has gone up about an octave. It is a bit more squeaky, but I suppose that will adjust when the swelling decreases. It is a dramatic difference and has reinforced our thoughts that we made the right decision.

Not sure why the pose. This is her latest thing--she wants to be doing something for every picture. On this day, it was hands in the air!

A little Agent Oso to get her in the mood.

In the crazy pajamas and chillin in the bed.

Off she goes.

Recovery. The tube next to her face is blowing oxygen at her.

Vital check in recovery.

Watching her IV being taken out. Almost time to go home.

Look at that little IV.

One happy kid--on her way home!

Watching tv in a box. Why? According to Claire, "because she's a queen." That she is ;)

Explanation required--we have had plenty of conversations around pointing and why we shouldn't point. Well Chris suggested using a full hand motion as shown above is a much more appropriate way to show something to someone. Mmmm Hmmm. He could use a little time in Charm School, I'm afraid and yes, he is teaching our children. Scary! Anyway, Mya has hung on every word and uses this full hand technique consistently. It totally cracks us up! I tried to simply take her picture, but she insisted on some action. This is what I got. Love that kid. She is personality to a T!

ha ha ha ha - the pointing finger issue cracks me up! Conor is pointing at everything right now and I keep telling him that someday he is not going to be able to point anymore because its not always appropriate....I'll have to remember the hand gesture and he'll be a little Vanna White :)

Happy Halloween!

The Halloween festivities are in full swing here. We attended a "Fall Festival" at my school on Thursday evening and today we enjoyed a "fall festival" at the girls' school. We've managed to keep their costumes a secret until Wednesday when Claire spilled the beans. She was doing so well at keeping the secret, I almost thought she wasn't our child for awhile ;) Claire dressed as "Pinkalicious" and Mya was a cupcake. My Mom and Dad bought Claire the book, "Pinkalicious" for her first birthday. It has been an on-going hit with our girls. They both have the entire book memorized. It is such a cute book where this girl named "Pinkalicious" loves pink. She eats too many pink cupcakes and turns pink, which she is thinks is simply beautiful then red, which is less than favorable. She eats her vegetables to turn alleviate her pain. In the meantime, her little brother is envious and devours the last one, then turns pink too. It is a ...

0.0

Yes, indeeedy do. 0.0 is exactly the amount of weight I lost this week. Irritating! Here's the breakdown: number of times I cheated on my diet--ZERO! number of times I worked out--FIVE!! (running, no less). Now that is a mean, mean slap in the face. After I picked myself off the floor and resisted the urge to throw the scale through my window, I've come to realize that it is time to call in the big guns. There will be no messing around. Through a very valuable (HA!--sense the sarcasm) inservice this year, I've learned that I am "Green," meaning logical, research based, problem solver, mathmatical thinker. I am applying the same thought and strategy to my 'get fit' adventure. There will be no relying on the treadmill to tell me how much I've burned. That thing lies, LIES, LIES!! Take for example, the fact that each time I worked out, I burned at least 300 calories--most often 350, my pulse was around 87 (which is pretty much a near death resting ...

A post

You wanted it, you asked for it, so here it is. A post. Hopefully this post will satisfy all your desires. I am not writing about the apple of my eye, Claire, but of the other apple of my eye--reality tv. I love it! Right now I am getting my fill of Big Brother. I have even lured Chris into my dark place. He mostly watched last season because Dick was such a jerk, but Chris is hooked. He's a dedicated viewer once again this season. Sadly, he was a fan of Matty who was kicked off a few weeks ago. I don't think I have a favorite. I find them all to be so obnoxious, yet I watch. Go figure. I obviously need some more excitement in my life. Girls who wear butt showing shorts, screaming matches, verbal abuse, crazy eyes, back stabbing, boys running around in their colored tighty whiteys (if tighty whiteys are colored, are they still called tighty whiteys?)---all in one episode! It is a gold mine. My second can't miss show is Housewives of Orange County or New York City. I really ...
