I posted this on facebook yesterday, but it is one of those things I don't want to forget, SOOOO, here it is...
While I was pounding it out on the treadmill yesterday, the girls convinced me that we needed a walk outside. Fine. It was cold, but fine. Claire bundled up in her jacket, hat and mittens, while Mya simply chose her spring jacket. Our dialogue went like this:
Me: Mya, it's pretty cold outside. Don't you think you should wear a hat, winter jacket and maybe gloves, like Claire?
Mya: No, Mama. I'm coool. (said in her 4 year old version of a hip 14 year old's response).
The girl has attitude, personality and the lingo to boot. I love every little thing.
Claire is such a goal driven kiddo. It kills me. She has joined Marathon Club at school, which is basically a club that meets for walking/running. The kids log their distance, working toward their individual goal and by the end of the club, they've accomplished that goal and in Claire's case--completed a marathon. She loves it. I join her on days where I don't have meetings and we walk/run together. Anyway, she now insists on walking on the treadmill each day so she can log her distance. We aren't talking big miles, but she does do a mile per day. Pretty good for a 5 year old and it is totally on her own. I don't suggest, encourage or even mention it. Here's another example. She is given "math missions" which are math games that focus on specific concepts. They are intended for family play, which means another thing we have to do. Our nights are crazy enough, so these are often the last thing on my mind. We rarely send them back by the due date, but work on them as time permits. I feel bad as she is constantly reminding me, but really, she is only in kindergarten. These missions are not a priority though they are slowly being forced up on us. This is usually Chris' activity to do with her. Anyway, every so often, she comes home with an award/certificate. It tickles her to no end. We are finally caught up on all of them, so she is DYING for the picnic that is soon to come.
Claire cracks me up too. We were riding to school today and she was trying to tell me something. I clearly was not understanding her message, so she says "what I am saying is..." A few conversational breakdowns later it became, "I guess what I am really trying to say is..." (I'll fill in the blanks--Mom, you are DUMB!--only kidding, but that is how I felt :)
Claire woke up this morning and the first words out of her mouth were, "5 days until Grammy comes!" Can you tell we are excited? Yessery! We are all counting the days. My Mom arrives, we hang out for the week, then depart on our Meditteranian adventure. We cannot wait! So much fun and beautiful scenery await. I've been trying to book private tours and get a feel for the excursions. It is part time job. I think I almost have the trip planned. I am planning to fly by the seat of our pants for a couple of the stops, so hopefully that works out. Otherwise, I've booked tours in Athens and Olympia and plan to book one for Dubrovnik. Cannot wait! I just need to push through the next couple of weeks.
