Claire has some issues. I was first alerted to this particular issue this weekend at the Mustang Club, which houses a couple of restaurants, barber shop, coffee shop, club, and slot machines--an eclectic mix, yes, but very fitting for Korea. We had been eating dinner when Claire announced that she had to go to the bathroom. I took her, opened the door to the stall, she took one look at the black toilet seat and said, "I don't have to go. I'll go at home." Great. Whatever.
Flash forward to Monday at school. I get a call saying that Claire had been holding herself (my words not theirs, I cleaned it up a bit) and that she had peed herself. Panic set in. This kid hasn't had an accident for a good year. Seriously. What is going on??!! I call Chris and he doesn't know what to do either. I decide to go to talk to Claire at school over my lunch hour, although I prepared to take the rest of the day off--just in case. Immediately upon opening the door, Claire runs over and tears start welling up in her eyes. The poor thing. She tries to tell me what happened (the potty is too noisy), but stupid me, becomes so focused on some medical issue (bladder infection, UTI) that MUST exist because why oh why would this kid just pee her pants? Get a grip, Kara! Listen to your kid! She tells me she is wearing baby undies (a pull-up) because we (I) forgot to bring her Dora undies. OIY!! Icing on the cake! I was not about to leave my child at school all day in a pull up, not to mention mismatched clothes (I kid). The kiddo has never even worn a pull up in her life. Irritating! I took her home and we had a long discussion about getting to the toilet, yata yata yata. It was a good day hanging together--just the two of us.
Flash forward to Tuesday. No news all day, but Claire was prepared this time--Dora undies and all. I pick her up and her sweet teacher, Ms. Maggie (who is an angel. we love her, love her, love her!) asks what happened yesterday. We discuss. I share Claire's report that the toilet was too noisy. She goes on to say that she and Claire also had a discussion and decided that during nap time (also an issue for Claire--she "doesn't like to sleep.") they would clean the bathroom. Claire loves to clean--not much at home mind you, but in public (another issue?? Ha.). Ms. Maggie further explained that Claire will use the toilet in preschool 1, but not in her classroom. Claire again repeats, "the potty is too noisy." So, here are my options: make special arrangements to cater to my princess--have someone flush the potty after her, support the idea of not peeing all day and she'll wait to come home to pee, invest in Dora undies for the school or better yet, hire a plumber to fix the noisy potty and make sure her world contains no black toilet seats. Hmmm.
I guess we all have issues...even at 3. Ha. In her defense, I've been to some nasty bathrooms which I refused to use and black toilet seats aren't my cup of tea either. The color tends to hide--if you know what I mean. And if I were as small as Claire, I'd probably be worried that the noisy potty would swallow me up too. So I write this post in fun, not to identify a real issue. My child is normal. I know that. This too shall pass and if she weren't so darn cute and lovable, I'd be freaking!
