Plans???

OMG. I could die. Chris has been diligently working behind the scenes trying desperately to reunite us all in Korea. The only way that I felt it even remote feasible would be if the DOD paid for our expenses. Unfortunately, an accompanied remote is hardly an option as we were 150 on "the list" back in May, but have since moved up to 149. Anyway, our only other option was for me to get a job. I applied back in May, but never heard a word. The principal of the school emailed back and forth, but it never seemed to progress beyond that. Fast forward to now--a couple of weeks before I head to Korea for a fabulous rendevous with Chris, a month or so before we end this vacation that we are currently on, a month or so before I am able to access my mail and retrieve any potential job offers--I checked my email only to find a request for a return phone call. I did so and quickly had a phone interview with the principal. OMG. I can't believe this is happening. I had basically written off any possibility of relocating to Korea this year not to mention this summer. I could die. Truly. Chris doesn't even know today's events as of yet. He is going to die, take a deep breath and then proceed to tell me how I can make this happen. How I can arrange movers, terminating the lease on our apartment, returning to MA and moving myself, our dog and two children all the way across the world--ALONE!! Really? OMG. I haven't even completed a stateside PSC with my husband not to mention one by myself or one ACROSS THE WORLD!! Breathe Kara, breathe. Every little thing is gonna be alright....

Well, I am happy you are so excited...but sad that you might move! Now you really better come stay in Montana before you head back. I can get a babysitter or my husband to watch the girls and we could have a spa day! I am hoping for the best! I just really don't want to you go.
Love ya,
J

First of all, I can sympathize with you, I have to do our first move while my hubby is deployed, fun stuff.

I am glad you will all be together, but as much as we don't see each other now...Korea will make it worse! I will miss you too much...I agree with Jessica!

OK, first... We are now 145 on the list. Second, while I understand your family's concern, nothing sucks more than watching my family grow up over the choppy (at best) internet. I was thinking today about when I retire. I'll get this great send-off a great pension and lots of people to wish me well. You will get a few kind words, some of my pension (if you play your cards right), and that is about it. For all that you will have done to keep this family together, that is the thanks you will get... Words cannot express how incredibly strong a military spouse has to be in order to endure a life like this, and words cannot ever express what you do for us and our family. I love you. Relax and hang in there, it will work out as it always does.

I don't even know what to say except its wonderful news and sad news all at the same time!!! It will be such an adventure for your family and a great experience for the girls (too bad they weren't a little older) and I am so happy that you will get to spend the next year together but I am also sad because we haven't spent enough time together and now you will be so far away :) but - your blog will have lots of great things to read about :)

Chris - your post was really sweet! Military wives/moms are also heros and you are great to remember it (even if you did just recently go to a concert while your wife was driving across the country with a melting down claire!)

It's okay. It's okay. It's okay! It's great, really! Leave all the trouble up to the movers-- all you have to worry about is flying the girls over, and all will be blissfully happy ever after!

Pink Family

Chris and I are creatures of habit. We like what we like. When we find something especially wonderful, we tend to go a bit overboard. Case in point--Chinese restaurant in Minot, ND. We frequented it often at least a couple of times per week. This was basically THE place we went out to eat. The host actually started to say things like, "nice to see you AGAIN." We were rather embarrassed and fearful that his line would eventually become, "your usual table?" Thankfully we moved. Since coming to Korea, we've tried every Brazilian Steakhouse (there are 4 or 5), I deemed Ceia my favorite. It has the most delicious white rice with which I put this onion mixture on top and it is oh. so. yummy. We became frequent visitors--typically one night per week. We joked between ourselves that we were going to be greeted as we were dreading in Minot. It never happened, thankfully, but who knows what the staff actually said as they primarily spoke Korean :) Another quirk Chris an...

my workout playlist

I never dreamed I'd be listening/watching this when I worked out, but it is true. Here it is: photo courtesty of Laurieberkner.com I wouldn't have it any other way. My little healthy lifestyle journey is going well. I have exercised 7 days thus far which consists of treadmill activity and an ab workout every other day. I don't pressure myself to run everyday, but I have run 4 of the 7 days. I am quite proud of that. I have never been a runner or enjoyed running, but I have grown to like it. I used to say that I had exercise induced asthma! I think I did, but maybe I outgrew it? ha. Whatever the reason, I am finding it pretty easy to run and maintain a steady pace for no less than 20 minutes each time. Pretty impressive feat for a girl like me. Interestingly, I had planned to take today off, but didn't. I actually had the desire to run. Chris and I are both sticking to the eating plan as well. So far I am down about 4 pounds. Although 4 pounds is plenty, it ...

9 Months

Claire is nine months old. She is such an active kid, always on the go. She no longer lays nicely when we change her diaper. It is quite the challenge. She is getting rather quick at crawling, so we have to move just as quickly to keep her out of where she doesn't belong--the fridge, cupboards, etc. Developmentally, she is right on track or maybe a bit advanced in our biased eyes. She crawls, pulls herself up, is beginning to move from one piece of furniture to another, mostly eats table food, and imitates us (both in the noises we make or actions--knocking on a door). When we hold her hands, she is beginning to take steps without much guidance. On Saturday, she made her first attempt to climb a step. Sadly, it ended with her sliding down. She has three teeth--two on the bottom, one on top with another coming in on top. Ten things we love about her: 1. her smile 2. her curiosity 3. the way she holds our hands or her own hands when she sleeps 4. her easy-goingness 5....
