It looks as though potty training days are here again. Mya has successfully initiated and completed two attempts to use the toilet. This is an awesome feat for sure, but I am a bit irritated. Selfishly, yes. The issue is this--I have been thinking about when we potty trained Claire. She was fully trained at 24 months, but there were numerous "accidents" to follow and several failed attempts along the way. At 25 months, Mya, Claire and I will be flying across the world. Have you ever flown alone (on an international trip, which means a suuupppeerr long flight) with 1 potty trained child and one that is barely trained? I envision chaos and a whole lot of unnecessary stress ;) Even if Mya becomes "trained" this month, I'll still be contending with accidents, a whole lot of "I think I have to go," but no go as well as Claire. It doesn't sound like much fun to me. I guess I have to let go of my control issues, choose seats close to the toilet and let things fall as they may. I am thrilled that Mya is beginning this process completely on her own and that she has already shown success. She is a doll on the potty. She loves to wipe herself, sing songs and has only fallen in two times. Not bad, huh? Anyway, it looks like a new chapter is opening in our lives. Now I can add potty training to my to-do list, along with working full time, teaching preschool each night and of course, cook, manager, and all of the other jobs I have acquired along the way. That being said, I wouldn't change this for the world. My life is pretty amazing and extremely fulfilling!
Claire is nine months old. She is such an active kid, always on the go. She no longer lays nicely when we change her diaper. It is quite the challenge. She is getting rather quick at crawling, so we have to move just as quickly to keep her out of where she doesn't belong--the fridge, cupboards, etc. Developmentally, she is right on track or maybe a bit advanced in our biased eyes. She crawls, pulls herself up, is beginning to move from one piece of furniture to another, mostly eats table food, and imitates us (both in the noises we make or actions--knocking on a door). When we hold her hands, she is beginning to take steps without much guidance. On Saturday, she made her first attempt to climb a step. Sadly, it ended with her sliding down. She has three teeth--two on the bottom, one on top with another coming in on top. Ten things we love about her: 1. her smile 2. her curiosity 3. the way she holds our hands or her own hands when she sleeps 4. her easy-goingness 5....
