Look closely. Very closely...
Korea is frequently and lovingly referred to as the "land of not quite right," but this little gem was not a Korean concoction. It is a Kara concoction. "Shave and Skate Barbie" complete with hairy legs, underarms and a brand, spanking new razor! Doesn't this just scream "WHITE ELEPHANT?" Our other white elephant gift was an already completed sudoku book, which by the way, took me HOURS of valuable time to do and an itunes gift card. Wouldn't you just love for us to come to your party?? With sick humored guests like us, who could go wrong? Ha!
The Halloween festivities are in full swing here. We attended a "Fall Festival" at my school on Thursday evening and today we enjoyed a "fall festival" at the girls' school. We've managed to keep their costumes a secret until Wednesday when Claire spilled the beans. (1) what is a white elephant party?
(2) did you cut her head hair to be able to give her leg hair?
A white elephant is similar to the yankee swap in NE. It is supposed to be a funny gift exchange with a piece of value to it. So, the barbie was funny, the razor had value. The sudoku book was funny, the gift card was value. The humor can be in a variety of forms--nasty t shirt, cookbook with ironic title, etc. They aren't always funny though. This was for the New Year's Party, but we also had one for chris' work party. We brought gift cards as it was a formal event. As always, the audience and setting needs to be taken into consideration. That's the jist.
I did cut the hair on the barbie. I had to make sure to choose one with easily accessible hair (I simply removed the box to do the dirty work then returned her so she'd look untouched).
Disgusting huh?!!
