My Utopia

So, the sale of our house is moving forward. The home inspection should be done this week, we are in the process of packing and hopefully, looking forward to a close at the end of February. With all of this activity, we've also had to seriously seek out some housing arrangements for the next year while Chris is in Korea. It has been a bit of a challenge with our dog, combined with my higher standards of living. I mean really, is it too much to ask not to have crap smeared on the walls, closet doors on the closets, or no urine stains on the carpet? Yucko. We had a difficult time envisioning Mya crawling around on floors like that. And that, folks is what we were up against. That being said, we did find one place that was decent--granted a prison was just down the road, it would have added 15 minutes to my commute, and we would have been in the middle of the woods, but it would have been okay as far as living arrangements were concerned. However, through this whole process, my biggest concern has been keeping our kids in the same daycare and staying close to my friends. So, the search continued. I found a couple of condos that we attempted to locate, but instead fell upon an apartment complex known from here on out as "my utopia. " Chris called, gathered a few details and scheduled an appointment. We arrived, only to be greeted with the sign--"Welcome to ******  *****, Leominster's newest 55+ community." No shit. We could have died. I wanted to leave, knowing full well that we didn't qualify, but Chris couldn't figure out why the lady didn't tell him this information on the phone. He insisted we go in and talk to them. We did. (Sound the harp as the skies opened with beams of sunshine.) It was glorious. New carpet, clean walls, lovely furniture with cute little snowmen in the hallways. Ahhh, I was sold and began thinking how I could convince my parents to move here so I could qualify to live in my utopia. The lady quickly explained that in a 55 and older community, only 80% of their population must meet those age guidelines, which opens the remaining 20% for others. That, my friends, would be us. yahoo!! I can live here!! I mean really, who wouldn't want this....
or this...
or this...
It's a perfect little community...bocce ball courts, tennis courts, pool, gym, putting greens, community flower and vegetable gardens, walking trails, baseball field, an ampitheater. They don't actually have a baseball team, but are bringing in teams to play so the community has some entertainment. I can picture us now, Mya, Claire and I sitting in the stands, between our new friends Elmer and Earl taking in the big game or maybe it will be us sitting at the ampitheater watching Bessy and Rose dancing. Sounds like fun, huh? Chris is jealous that he won't be there to experience the good life. So, we've applied to become residents and we wait. I hope, I hope, I hope this will become my utopia for real!

I know. Our new place is going to be the "it" spot. I am thinking you, Michelle, Erin, and me lounging poolside watching our "babysitters" tend to our kiddos. Okay, no, maybe not. It will be more like this--us in the pool as the entertainment for the oldies. That is more like it. Either way, activities galore! I'll save a seat for you guys next to Elmer and Earl at the ballgame. Fun!

Yes, indeeedy do. 0.0 is exactly the amount of weight I lost this week. Irritating! Here's the breakdown: number of times I cheated on my diet--ZERO! number of times I worked out--FIVE!! (running, no less). Now that is a mean, mean slap in the face. After I picked myself off the floor and resisted the urge to throw the scale through my window, I've come to realize that it is time to call in the big guns. There will be no messing around. Through a very valuable (HA!--sense the sarcasm) inservice this year, I've learned that I am "Green," meaning logical, research based, problem solver, mathmatical thinker. I am applying the same thought and strategy to my 'get fit' adventure. There will be no relying on the treadmill to tell me how much I've burned. That thing lies, LIES, LIES!! Take for example, the fact that each time I worked out, I burned at least 300 calories--most often 350, my pulse was around 87 (which is pretty much a near death resting ...

Bouncing Crazyiness!

I do alot of online shopping. When you live overseas, you have to. The BX is thrilling, yes, but it changes out the merchandise only so often ;) When it comes to clothing, if you shop at the BX (which I do as well), you can be guaranteed that at least 3 other people will be seen in the same item. Take for example this little gray vest that I bought. The other day, 2 other teachers showed up in the same one. Thankfully, I hadn't worn mine that day, but you get the point. Anyway, several places do not ship overseas. That's where my Mom comes in. I typically have the stuff mailed to her house and she graciously mails it to us. Readdressing the boxes, running to the post office and mailing our stuff is a major pain. I know this, but she's been so great about it. Priority mail is the way to go. She generally mails it priority and we recieve it in a week to ten days. However, I ordered a "jumpy jump" as Claire calls it, well before Christmas. Since it was so heavy and s...

my workout playlist

I never dreamed I'd be listening/watching this when I worked out, but it is true. Here it is: photo courtesty of Laurieberkner.com I wouldn't have it any other way. My little healthy lifestyle journey is going well. I have exercised 7 days thus far which consists of treadmill activity and an ab workout every other day. I don't pressure myself to run everyday, but I have run 4 of the 7 days. I am quite proud of that. I have never been a runner or enjoyed running, but I have grown to like it. I used to say that I had exercise induced asthma! I think I did, but maybe I outgrew it? ha. Whatever the reason, I am finding it pretty easy to run and maintain a steady pace for no less than 20 minutes each time. Pretty impressive feat for a girl like me. Interestingly, I had planned to take today off, but didn't. I actually had the desire to run. Chris and I are both sticking to the eating plan as well. So far I am down about 4 pounds. Although 4 pounds is plenty, it ...
