playdough cookies

We have been working on teaching Claire her colors. I found a great little cookie recipe that I thought would be the perfect hands-on lesson--Playdough Cookies (sitsgirlsrecipes.blogspot.com). They were definitely a hit. We talked about the colors, rolled them out with our hands and molded them into cookie-like lollipops. She was so excited to bring them to daycare to share with her friends. They were equally as excited. Here is the recipe:
Playdough Cookies
3/4 c. butter
3 oz. cream cheese
1 c sugar
1 egg
1 t vanilla extract
2 3/4 c flour
1 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
assorted food coloring

1. In a bowl cream butter, cream cheese and sugar until fluffy. Beat until smooth.
2. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture. Stir until soft dough forms.
3. Divide into fourths. Tint each "fourth" with a different food color. Wrap in plastic or put in a ziploc bag and refridgerate for 2 hours (we put ours in the freezer for 15 minutes).
4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Shape colors into 3/4 inch balls. For each cookie place one ball of each color in a group. Push them together and roll them into a rope. Coil the dough to make the cookie.
5. Place the cookies on the cookie sheet with enough space in between to allow for spreading. Bake 10 minutes (ours was longer as I made larger cookies) or until lightly browned. I also added a stick approximately halfway through the baking process to give them the traditional lollipop effect. Very cute and tasty.

yes, you can eat them! they are playdough-like so kids can play with them first, mold them into cookies, bake them, and eat them. talk about having the best of both worlds!

A post

You wanted it, you asked for it, so here it is. A post. Hopefully this post will satisfy all your desires. I am not writing about the apple of my eye, Claire, but of the other apple of my eye--reality tv. I love it! Right now I am getting my fill of Big Brother. I have even lured Chris into my dark place. He mostly watched last season because Dick was such a jerk, but Chris is hooked. He's a dedicated viewer once again this season. Sadly, he was a fan of Matty who was kicked off a few weeks ago. I don't think I have a favorite. I find them all to be so obnoxious, yet I watch. Go figure. I obviously need some more excitement in my life. Girls who wear butt showing shorts, screaming matches, verbal abuse, crazy eyes, back stabbing, boys running around in their colored tighty whiteys (if tighty whiteys are colored, are they still called tighty whiteys?)---all in one episode! It is a gold mine. My second can't miss show is Housewives of Orange County or New York City. I really

4 months

We are potentially down to our last four months in Korea. I say "potentially" because it rests solely on where we are going. If we are heading back to the States, we will most likely be leaving early June so that we can enjoy a full summer with family and have time to get settled before Claire begins school. We caught wind today of what could be our next assignment. Although it is far from official word, all of a sudden my tummy is filled with butterflies. I had the privilege of teaching a little first grade girl who was one of a set of quadruplets. They (she and her sisters) are the most delightful little girls. They are well behaved and truly beautiful inside and out. Anyway, their family was due to PCS (military move) in December. I teased her that I was going to follow her and live down the road. While they were house hunting, I continually asked if there was a neighboring house for me. She'd laugh and giggle, not really sure if I was serious or not. Her Mom thought

Progress

I used to be prompt about scrapbooking in Claire's album. After seeing my sister's pictures piled up three children later, I was determined not to have the same fate. I am sure it is difficult for some of you to believe, but since Claire has been born, my free time has been limited. Really, it has. So, our pictures are finding their way into piles too--5 to be exact. However, I am thrilled to say that I finished (ok, they aren't completely finished, but nearly. I only have journaling to do.) six pages. Yes, that's right, I said SIX!! It was a major accomplishment. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. Only 5 more months left to get through....any volunteers? Jessica???
